Biography

Born in Sri Lanka, Michael Ondaatje moved to Canada in the 1960s. He is a poet, novelist, editor, literary critic, and playwright. Among his numerous awards and honours, Ondaatje has received the Governor General’s Literary Award five times. His Man Booker Prize–winning novel The English Patient was adapted into a film that won nine Academy Awards. He is also a Trustee of the Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry. He lives in Toronto.
